Natural Newborn Posing
Finding cute poses for your precious baby is part of our expertise. We will gently guide their bodies into cute, artistic, and serene poses. As with all of our genres of photography, we start with a basic foundation of poses and make micro adjustments to change the look and feel of the image. There are three basic positions for newborns: on their backs, on their sides, or on their stomachs. From there, we use props, blankets, lighting, and our creative compositions to change each image.

Safety is our Priority
Infant safety is our top priority. We never put your baby in risky positions or unsafe circumstances. We use specially trained photographers and assistants that know how to pose a baby properly and safely.
Unique, Soft Post Processing (Retouching)
Our style of post production for infant photography is similar to our processing for our Lin & Jirsa wedding photography. The main difference is that we lean towards a more bright and airy style as opposed to our typical vibrant and HD style that we use primarily in our wedding photos. The result is a much softer look like you see below.

Personalize your Photography
We love including personal touches to your baby photos. If mom and dad love a particular sports team or fell in love in a foreign country, we should definitely consider including those elements in the photos.
Newborn Photography FAQs
When should we take newborn photos?
We recommend that you take your newborn photos between 5-10 days. There are a couple reasons behind scheduling your photo session at this time with the first being that babies are easiest to work with within the first 2 weeks of being born. It is during this period, babies are sleeping the majority of the day which makes it very easy to get them into poses. In addition, because the baby hasn’t been out of the womb for a long period of time, they are more likely to curl up in “womb-like” poses, stay asleep longer, and don’t mind being unclothed.
What if my baby is older than 10 days?
We can still schedule a session, however, your baby may be more alert and less likely to get into the curled up positions. We will still be able to get really cute shots of the baby wrapped and posed including all of the little details – fingers, toes, lips, and lashes.
What time of day is best?
Babies are usually the sleepiest in the morning so we aim to start the session between 9-12.
How long are newborn photography sessions?
Baby Photography Sessions can last anywhere from 2-4 hours. We typically allow for a range in time as we work on the baby’s schedule. A newborn session progresses as the baby’s temperament, health, and mood allows. We follow their cues, so they remain as comfortable as possible. If baby needs to be comforted, fed, or changed we will stop for as long as necessary. Therefore, each session may vary.
Are props included? If so, what kind of props are there?
We do provide an assortment of props for the baby photos but parents are welcome to also bring in their own props as to help create more personalized photos for the baby.
Here is a list of some of the props we are able to provide for your photography session:
-
- Assorted back drops
- Knit hats, pants & wraps in various colors
- Headbands for girls in various colors
- Nests, baskets, & buckets
What do I do to help prepare my baby for the Newborn Photography Session?
There are a few things that parents should do before the start of a baby photography session. First, have the newborn cleaned with a sponge bath prior to the shoot. This helps in removing any dry and loose skin the baby may have. Secondly, try to keep the baby awake and unfed 1-2 hours prior to the shoot. We will ask you to feed and change baby once you arrive. If the parents or siblings would like to be in the photos please come ready or have outfits available to change into. If the baby is nursing you may want to eat a bland diet 1-2 days prior to the shoot as certain foods the mother eats can cause the baby to become gassy and fussy. Please check with your doctor first. If the baby is formula fed you may want to bring extra bottles as baby may become hungry and need to be fed during the session.
What should I bring?
Baby – Extra diapers, wipes, a pacifier, and extra formula or bottled breast milk.
Mom – Supplies to touch up your makeup and hair if desired, a couple of outfit changes.
Dad – A couple of outfit changes.
Kids – A couple of outfit changes, snacks, and something to keep them occupied (eg. books, toys, iPad).
Will we need to help during the photography session?
No. We use specially trained newborn photographers and assistants that know how to pose a baby properly and safely. We want your time here to be enjoyable and relaxing.
Will we be able to do all of the poses that I see on Pinterest?
Not every baby will do every pose. It depends on their age, mood, health, etc.

Will the photographers come to my house or will I need to come to the studio?
We have created the perfect environment for newborn photography in our studio, taking into consideration the temperature, noise, safety, lighting, and available props. Because of these reasons, all newborn sessions are done in our Tustin studio.
Will any retouching be included to remove rashes, birthmarks, baby acne, etc.?
All retouching is included in the price of the images or products you purchase! Please be sure to let us know if there are specific things you want to be retouched so that we can make note of that.
